Nest Audio | Early Impressions

I've been having the Nest Audio’s for just over two months now and they are just what I thought they would be. A worthy successor to the OG Google Home. The sound quality is much improved and I am pleasantly surprised how loud they can get. I have two and use them as a stereo pair in my living room. My plan is to write a more in-depth blog that will be more detailed. These are just my early impressions.

So how good is that sound

In a word, impressive. I am in no way an audiophile and these speakers are not meant for those looking for professional-grade or high-quality sound. I would classify the sound produced by Nest Audio as for casual listening. The speakers get nice and loud while producing rich sound and solid low-end bass. Vocals are clear with excellent music separation with the mids, highs, and bass. I tend to look for details in the music that can be hard to hear but the Nest Audio played them well. Having two Nest Audio’s definitely fills a large room with good sounding music.

Look and feel

The Nest Audio has a familiar look as Google’s most recent speakers such as the Nest Mini and Google Home Max. Mesh fabric covers the entire speaker giving it a nice modern design. Nest Audio is much heavier than it looks. Weighing in at more than two and a half pounds. I’ll list more tech specs at the end of this blog post.

Price

You can get a Nest Audio for $99 dollars and there are some savings if purchased as a pair. I saved $20 at Best Buy when I bought two. Recently I saw online where you can buy two for $149. I'm sure there are always deals so if you are interested I suggest searching the web.

Thoughts so far

I'm very pleased with Nest Audio. It's a solid option and provides a real value at a $99 price point. There are other aspects of the Nest Audio I plan on blogging about in the near future such as the Google Assistant and areas where it can improve. Although I can already tell that after two months I can easily recommend the Nest Audio. It's a solid performer and should be considered for anyone in the market for a smart speaker.

I attended a Pixel Superfans event at the new Google Store in Santa Monica, CA

Last Friday, I had the opportunity to attend a Pixel Superfans event at the new Google Store in Santa Monica. It was a soft launch of the store and a good way to meet like minded people. The staff were very nice and helpful. While I was at the store I was able to finally check out the Pixel 9 Pro Fold and wow that device is extremely impressive. Outside of that, I was able to look around the store and check out other Google products which there are quite a bit to see. I'm looking forward to my next visit to the new Google Store. Take a look at the pictures below including one of some swag I got from Google at the event.

Reviewing the Pixelbook Go after 5 yrs | Software that is outpacing the hardware

No doubt, the Pixelbook Go has served me well in my 5 yrs with the laptop. This is not necessarily a review of the features on the laptop but a review of the PBG hardware and its usability in 2025. I acknowledge that I am a part of a very small club of users that still have and use this device but I must say that I still enjoy using the PBG every single day. Now, to the review. Hardware Right off the bat. The hardware is probably the least compelling aspect of the PBG. When the laptop was first released in 2019 it was already a year or two behind the competition with the onboard soc. Surprisingly, this has not negatively impacted using the laptop with most tasks. Web surfing is a breeze and most Android apps run pretty effortlessly. The 8th Gen i5 Intel soc paired with 8GB of RAM is well optimized and I feel that Google is getting as much as it can out of the chip.  Where the PBG falls short is with video editing apps. I've tried several Android apps and a couple of Linux ap...
